One Month In

Hello everyone and welcome to our website! We hope you find this interesting and fun as we journey across the country in our wonderfully refurbished 1994 Gulf Stream Conquest…AKA…Gravy! “
When we thought of Gravy, we were thinking like, “It’s Gravy Baby” or “Good Gravy!”, or that she is about as nimble as a gravy boat! Anyhow, as we concluded our first full month on the road, we wanted to put together a blog for our family, friends, and anyone interested in us. We hope to further this as we come across different adventures, different challenges, and all of life’s moments in between. With out further adieu, please find a summary and photos of our first month of our adventure below!
We started off this journey celebrating with our friends and family alike in Denver on September 28th before heading across Kansas and the Midwest to our first destination in Alexandria, KY! Our arrival to a very homey Airbnb was greeted by our hosts Tim, Anita, and Josie!
After a few days we set out to Springer Mountain, Georgia. For those who didn’t immediately lose their socks when reading that, Springer Mountain hosts the southern terminus of the infamous Applanation Trail. Bo and Lola enjoyed the woods, and we learned that there are very large spiders down in GA. They kept the bugs down, but we were glad to keep onward.
Heading out of Georgia, we found ourselves with some time before taking a quick break to celebrate our friends at their respective weddings. One in Nashville, and one in Fort Collins. Shout out Kaisers! Shout out Hartmans! We did eventually recover, and looked to the North! As Gravy had never seen the country side of Kentucky or Ohio much, we figured it was our best route to head north towards Buffalo, NY. While doing so we saw some fun things along the way like a National Forrest near Ironton, OH, Abraham Lincoln’s Birthplace, Ohio’s Great Seal State Park, and local a marina along Lake Eire. We met some fun people at Lake Erie and managed to find some really good coffee in Ashtabula, Ohio. For the football fans reading, that’s also Urban Meyers home town, and also home of a very fun bar called the Crows Nest. Once we got to Buffalo, we tried the very popular chicken wings, and managed to get towards the Canadian boarder. Gravy just squeaked by the pay station into Niagara State Park, and then we were able to even spend a short hour walking around in Canada.
We eventually had our fill with our northern neighbors, so we scooted away from the hustle bustle and cruised through the fall foliage to the Adirondacks. After finding some dispersed campgrounds and a great hike, we ended up pausing again in Vermont. After more lovely fall camping, we had the opportunity to head East to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. We took Gravy to the coast, caught a notoriously beautiful sunrise, saw the profound colors of the forest, and made great use of the carriage house roads. The park is extremely dog friendly, and the pups enjoyed participating in the journey as well. We of course had to try out a fresh lobster roll, seasonal cocktails, and local breakfast before leaving.
For now we will be in Boston for the coming weekend as Shelly travels back across the country to the Great Tetons. From Boston, we will be traveling south to Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and then back to Kentucky for the Christmas season. Thanks for reading, and we will keep updating the website with more and more content as we go! Please be sure to follow our Instagram @DirtbadDietian for more photos and videos of our adventures!
